How to Monetize Your Passion through Blogging

If you're like most of the people I know, you're probably blogging for one of the following reasons:

  • To keep an online journal of your days (or probably rant about your stressful days without anyone knowing)
  • To use it as a portfolio for potential jobs or clients
  • To write about your interests or hobbies
  • To hopefully collaborate with brands for free or sponsored products
  • To blend in because people think being a blogger is "cool"

If you're one of those I've mentioned, it's okay -- YOU DO YOU! But if you're here to look for more ways to monetize your blog by actually doing what you love and sharing your passions and knowledge, then you're in the right place.

Two Paths in Monetizing Your Blog

There are two paths in monetizing your blog. These are:

  1. Being an influencer
  2. Being an infopreneur

What you probably think of when it comes to blogging is under the influencer path. Influencers work with brands or companies and usually become affiliates or ambassadors of their products, events, or services. They write blog posts -- perhaps, sponsored -- and talk about those in their social media pages.

I've been an influencer before and in fact, I still consider myself one. It really doesn't mean these two paths are exclusive to each other and you're forced to only pick one because, at the end of the day, it's your decision to follow what feels right and good for you.

As for my experience, my only concern with being an influencer back then was that I somehow felt limited -- like there's more to blogging than just writing sponsored posts or posting about my OOTDs (I used to be a fashion blogger btw!) or talking about me, me, me -- what happened in my days, how events or trips I've gone to went for me, etc. It was fun to connect with people in the same blogging, beauty, and lifestyle blogging industry, but it didn't make me feel fulfilled.

And if you know me personally, you'd know I'm a sucker for being truly fulfilled and purpose-driven. So I followed my gut and transitioned to being -- guess what? -- an infopreneur.

As an infopreneur, you leverage your skills, passions, and knowledge and share them with your audience. And the thing is -- people do this in almost all kinds of niche. Whether that be photography, dog ownership, stress reduction for entrepreneurs, and so on. Think Marie Forleo, Tony Robbins, James Wedmore, etc. They all started selling services and programs where they teach their students the things they specialize at and THEY MAKE MONEY (AND IMPACT!) OUT OF IT.

Sounds like something you're interested to try? Good! In this blog post, I'm going to tell you how exactly can you make money by being an infopreneur so you can make an impact, travel, and build your dream life by monetizing your passion.

How to Make Money Being an Infopreneur through Blogging

How to Make Money by Being an Infopreneur

1. Find your niche.

What exactly do you want to be known for? Are you the go-to Instagram gal who teaches people how to grow their IG accounts? Are you the writer who creates amazing copies for websites? Do you help people reduce their overwhelm or stress by sharing your knowledge of wellbeing and mental health?

Finding your niche is so important because it helps your audience easily remember, like, and trust you enough for them to avail your products or services. Why? Because with your niche, they're going to perceive you as the "expert" or the "go-to person" for that matter. When they or someone they know need information or help in YOUR niche, they can easily say, "Ahh I know exactly who to go to! I'll check out [insert your name here]'s website ASAP!"

Because, come to think of it, imagine you're someone who wants to get your blurry vision treated. Would you go to a generalist doctor who can give you various options to get you treated or an ophthalmologist who specializes on eye treatment and vision care who can give you the best option for your eye treatment? If I were you, I'd go for the latter, right?

So, if you want to learn more about how you can find a niche that's aligned with your passion and dream business but is also a niche that's profitable enough to help you reach your income goals and build your dream life, I actually have an online course just for you! 2. Know your audience.

Now that you know what topic you want to be known for, the next step is to understand who your audience is. The advantage of doing this to make money being an infopreneur is that you're actually not going to waste your time creating content and selling offers or products that your audience doesn't really need. When you do market research and get to know your audience -- what their needs, struggles, and interests are -- it'll be much easier for you to resonate with them, answer their questions and help them with what they need.

This is also something we cover in the Your Profitable Niche course. I teach my students there how to do their market research so that the more they know their audience, the more their audience trusts them. And do you know what happens when they trust you as an infopreneur and blogger? They're not going to hesitate to be your client or avail your service or buy your product simply because they trust you enough to know that you're going to bring them transformation in their lives. Plus, you'll simply increase your traffic and grow your blog, too! Exciting, right?

3. Give value.

It doesn't stop when you know your audience well enough. In fact, that's just the beginning. The next thing for you to do is start giving value. You do this by creating content that is going to make their jaws drop -- literally. I'm kidding. Well, not really. What I mean is, your content must have such an amazing value that your readers can't help but engage with it, share it, and take action on it.

It's really not enough to just create blog posts after blog posts after blog posts without the intention of actually helping your audience with what they need. Go back to your market research and ask yourself, "what are their biggest pain points?". Then, go write about those.

That's how you create STANDOUT content so that you can start to make money being an infopreneur -- you should stop the "ME" syndrome of just talking about you, you, and only you. Focus on how you can add value and talk FOR and WITH your audience. This itself is going to transform your blog-to-biz journey.

4. Sell your offers.

Now that you've taken your audience to a journey of getting to know you and realizing the value you add into their lives, it's most probably the perfect time to start thinking about your offers. Offers meaning the products and services you're going to offer to your audience. These are just some of the most usual offers you can build to make money as an infopreneur:

  • Done-for-you services (Ex. Editing, Pinterest marketing, Copywriting, etc.)
  • Ebooks or other digital products
  • DIY online courses
  • Memberships
  • Group coaching programs
  • 1:1 private coaching

Also, don't stress about perfecting your offers. You can improve and update them as you go. Again, going back to knowing your niche and audience, your offers just have to fill in a gap in their lives and help bring them transformation or results in whatever aspect that may be. Just focusing on that will help you sell-out your offers.

5. Nurture your community.

It's not all about making money. In fact, money is just an outcome in your blogging success journey. What matters more is you're actually creating a positive impact on anyone who comes across you, your content, or your website. So my last (but not the least) tip for you to make money being an infopreneur is to nurture your community, your tribe. You can't make a business without them, after all.

When you engage and build relationships with your community, they kind of become your ambassadors. They do the marketing for you not because you told them to do so, but they just naturally wanted to. They do so because they just freakin' love you after all the help and value you've been giving them.
